A brief history of Alexandra Secondary College’s Houses

Bainbridge House was named after Joseph B. Bainbridge, a manager of the Union Bank of Australia from 1876-1881 who was a distinguished citizen of the town of Alexandra. Bainbridge House’s colour is yellow.

Long House was named after Charles R. Long who taught briefly at the Alexandra State School from 1877-1879 and later went on to a distinguished career with the Education Department of Victoria. He later wrote a book on the history of Alexandra. Long House’s colour is green.

Cumming House was named after Eric Cumming, who attended Acheron State School and the Higher Elementary School of Alexandra. He was an outstanding professional runner competing in 60 Gift finals, including 14 in England and Scotland. Cumming House’s colour is blue

Weinberg House was named after Ray Weinberg who attended the Alexandra State School and the Higher Elementary School of Alexandra. He was a great athlete, who in 1952 was captain of the Australian Olympic team in Helsinki. Weinberg House’s colour is red.
