BYOD Device

At Alexandra Secondary College we always strive to provide the best opportunities for student learning and outcomes. We believe that the use of digital technology is central to effective teaching and learning, by enabling students to access information online, and engage in collaborative and creative work. This access is provided to students through a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.

The College provides access to purchase portals with two different companies, JB-Hi Fi Education and Leading with Technology (LWT), where several devices are available for purchase at education pricing along with insurance/warranty and financing options. Purchase portal details are as follows:

When deciding which device to purchase we suggest you take into consideration the following factors:

  • Cost
  • Storage capacity – the more the better
  • Storage type – SSD (Solid State Drive) versus HDD (Hard Disc Drive) – Both do the same job; however, the HDD is cheaper whilst the SSD boots a machine faster and has higher overall performance.
  • Years of use – a laptop can be used until the end of Year 12 whereas an iPad will need to be replaced by the end of Year 9
  • Opportunities for challenge and extension are best met with a laptop
  • Apple Macs display some challenges in running software used at junior levels, so are a better option for students in Years 9 and above rather than junior students.
